Charles Pinckney
I am seeking to create a sense of harmony and balance in my work. I search for that intagible sense of memory in the formation of
wearable sculpture. The inspirations for my work are woven deeply in the experiences and concepts of my youth in South Carolina.
All of my artwork is fabricated by me from flat sheet, wire and rod metal. I use sterling, 14 k gold, titanium, copper, bronze, bone,
exotic woods, semi-precious stones, beads, glass and other materials.
Techniques include piercing, forging, fusing, hot and cold joins, mokume-gane, laminations, granulations, inlay and metal carving. Every part
of a piece that I design contributes to the function and aesthetic intrigue of the piece. Many of my pieces are articulated for movement.
My pieces are signed and numbered, with the early work denoted by CP numbers. BW numbers are assigned
to the pieces that were made from 2002 to 2005 in my Bottleworks studio in the renovated Coca Cola Bottle plant of Athens, GA. OCJ numbers refer
to the Old Clarke County Jail, where my studio is presently located. This is also an historical building that was build in 1876 as the original
jail for Clarke County, GA.
My designs are equally suitable for women and men and are sized accordingly. We have sterling snake and Omega chains of various diameter and
length and black cord for the pendants. Chains of 14 k gold can be ordered when paid for in advance. In addition, I make sterling or 14 k
gold link chain by commission.
I have studied metals with Eleanor Caldwell, Chuck Evans and Bob Ebendorf.
Please call my studio for availability of work or to commission a piece. We accept Visa and MasterCard and will ship to you.
